What I know then:
Growing up I was not privileged to have had access to technology. Back in those days there was the radio, V-Tech computer and then along came the first household computer in the year 2002. With that computer, I was able to access the internet and get assignments completed in those secondary school days. Then entering university level was where I got my very own laptop for the first time.
It was aware to me that technology was a high mean of accessing
education. This method is vastly growing in society. I was able to understand
that educational technology was more a need but now it seems in my opinion that
it is a want, simply because there are so many new technologies on the market,
individuals tend to want all. So in my earlier school days, the technologies
used were more the radio and computer which succeeded in educating persons also
myself.
What I know now:
As mentioned earlier, technology has vastly increased, both in homes and in schools don't matter the level. I have personally been involved or engaged in using technology as an educational tool for presentation of a topic at university level.
Those tools I came across were the projector and advance software in
laptop such as windows vista. I have also come across the use of a cell phone
and IPad being used as educational tools. But later in computer aided courses
taken for my degree, I got to understand that educational technology does not
only relate to the computer but to any invention that would aid in learning.
I view educational technology as a really and extreme asset today
because it brings out the creativity in learning which is fun. It also
increases communication skills individually and collectively which is the key
outcome of its use besides learning.
How it will affect my teaching:
Teaching is purposeful activity. In my opinion, the ultimate goal in teaching is to bring all-round development in a child. To achieve such goal is where education technology comes in. As an aspiring teacher, I am really excited to put forward my plans and suggestions gained from other classmates in my teaching strategies.
Some tools that I would use to encourage learning in my classroom
includes: projector, camera, flip charts and picture aids. There will be more
but these are just a few. We ought to take note though, that not too much
technology should be used as the practical experience would be lowered.
Therefore the use of technology in the classroom should be balanced. Allowing
students to be involved in the use of technology during class will enable them
to gather information individually and as a class.
